Brushstrokes like reeds in wind—amber and green swept across ivory clay. This bowl from the kilns of Shussai Gama carries the breath of the earth and the pulse of the human hand. Its Yūsai glaze, fluid and gestural, is not a decoration but a movement captured.
A studio work, balanced in form and intention, it bears quiet testimony to Japan’s Mingei ethos. The surface gleams, but underneath: a grounded humility. Sent in its original tomobako, it arrives not as an object but as an offering. For table or for stillness—it remains beautiful in both.
Writing on the Box Lid (Tomobako):
出西窯 (Shussai-gama) — Name of the kiln
釉彩鉢 (Yūsai Hachi)
釉彩 = Glaze coloring / decorative glazing
鉢 = Bowl
Full meaning:
"Decoratively Glazed Bowl – Shussai Kiln"
The red seal below the name is the kiln’s seal — confirming it is an authentic piece from their workshop.
