Created and signed by Jim Lewk, this lightly patinaed copper piece is mounted on an irregularly shaped chunk of white stone.

This sculpture was purchased as a birthday gift for my mother. I found it in an art gallery in 1982 during a trip to South Carolina and knew she’s love it. The piece had pride of place in her home – perhaps just because it was a gift from me, but perhaps because it also reminded her of all of the seaside summer trips we took while I was young. I’ve proudly displayed this sculpture in my office for many years now but downsizing requires me to try to find someone who will treasure this piece as much as my mother and I have.

Sculptor Jim Lewk was born in Troyes, France, raised in New York, and subsequently moved to Miami. He studied art at the University of Miami, Florida State University, and in several European countries. Lewk has been creating metal sculptures since 1970 that portray his very specific individual style. His early works, such as this sculpture, are comprised simply of metal and stone, while his later pieces typically contain colorful elements.
