Intricate carvings … Read more The product of an immensely talented northern Italian woodworker, this beautiful oak socle pedestal dates to the 1600s. Intricate carvings in the style of the Renaissance embellish the façade and both sides of the pedestal, highlighted by the visually stunning abacus that is reminiscent of a velvety pillow. Beneath the “plush” entablature is the mascaron of a winged putto set inside numerous foliate margents. The thick leaves are positioned below spiral fluting and above repeating curled niches that grace the roughly rectangular plinth. A rich brown patina to the wood accentuates the wonderful carvings and gives them added depth. Our carved oak pedestal would make a wonderful addition to any room and is capable of supporting a small statue or bust. See less
