item :
a wonderful pair of solid bronze sculptures, gilded using the galvanic method. They are not hollow, but rather solid and extremely heavy for their size. They depict two eastern monks, presumably chinese or thai, dating between 1960 and 1980. Only one of them is signed in light relief. Unfortunately, i was unable to decipher it clearly. The signature appears to be soia, therefore barbara soia. The sculpture is of high quality, as is the material used: richly gilded and very heavy. It's not brass, it's pure bronze. When struck with a metal object, it resonates like a bell, a characteristic unique to bronze.

i don't know this artist and haven't found any biographical information online, only a few sculptures offered for auction. I found her by typing "soia" into google because that seemed to be the signature on the sculpture. Specifically, we found a sculpture of a winged man, lot number 298, titled "tropisme," estimated €1,200-€1,500 at the "art & decoration" auction on july 24, 2021, at vasari auction in bordeaux, france, and another sculpture, lot number 168, titled "sur la pointe des pieds," estimated €1,500-€2,000 at the "art & décoration" auction on june 26, 2021, at vasari auction in bordeaux, france. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
