A wonderful, rare, entirely hand-molded terracotta sculpture, a unique piece depicting a pediatrician examining a child on a bed. Created by Sicilian ceramist and sculptor Leonardo Bonaccorso, who worked in Caltagirone in the 20th century. Particularly beautiful are the doctor's coat and tablecloth, crafted from thin layers of terracotta molded by hand to reproduce the realistic effect of cloth. This is where the term "drapery" comes from, a classic characteristic of the Sicilian artistic school. Signed under the base "Bonaccorso Caltagirone," there is also an additional inscription, more recent than the signature. It is in fact written in a different ink and has a different patina, with a dedication to a department of an Italian hospital in Mazara del Vallo, to which it was likely donated in 1985. Our sculpture, on the other hand, dates to around 1940-1950, with an excellent patina confirming this dating.
