Pair of spelter and marble bird bookends by Frécourt, Art Deco
Created through the ingenuity of master French bronze sculptor Maurice Frécourt (1890-1961), this pair of bookends is a beautiful testament to his love for the naturalistic expressionism of the Belle Époque. This artist was fortunate to experience the two most influential periods in early 20th-century design history: Art Nouveau and Art Deco, and his works are a clever blend of poetry and artistic sculpture, reflecting the hallmarks of these styles: organic realism, punctuated by poetic geometry!
A rectangular white marble base, a gray and black spelter motif depicting birds on a branch, perched in a vivid scene, almost like a frozen moment. This is the world of Frécourt: a surprising blend of love for wildlife and a symbiosis with the organic and geometric aspects of Art Deco.
Signed Frécourt, the artist's name on the spelter base, is followed by the name of Gallot, founder and contemporary of Frécourt.
