Antonio Zavaga was an Italian painter from the late 19th to early 20th centuries, specializing in 18th-century style paintings, predominantly of gallant and salon settings. The scene in this work is also set in a sumptuous 18th-century salon: a lady and a gentleman sit at a table playing chess, while the lady-in-waiting brings tea and another gentleman looks on amusedly. The work is presented in a painted frame from the late 19th or early 20th century. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
