These doors date to the 19th century (Joseon/Choson era) and were made for a hanok (한옥; name in South Korea) or chosŏnjip (조선집 name in North Korea).

A hanok/chosŏnjip is a Korean home utilizing traditional architecture. The building is constructed in relation to the land and seasons.

These doors are quite a rarity, as many historic structures were destroyed during the Korean War. It is not common to have a full set still together.

This set is composed of 4 wooden panels with hinges.

The 4 panels are accented with traditional metalwork. The 2 center doors have floral handles.

These doors would have once had strong rice paper backings to keep out the elements. The rice paper has long been removed.

Hanok were typically constructed with low roofs. As a result, these doors are shorter than standard sizes today. These days, Hanok doors are used as well decor or made into folding screens.
