Large Chinese rouxingshi, a large, finely carved, meat slab shape, viewing stone of mixed, banded calcite and translucent quartz in stratified, crystalline layers of oranges, yellowish-greys, umbers and patches of white, with a natural, waxy surface. The Chinese, traditional, hongmu stand is included. Circa Republic of China era or earlier. Excellent vintage condition.
Rouxingshi: The Meat-Shaped Stone embodies the Chinese appreciation for both food and art. It is a testament to the craftsmanship of the Qing Dynasty and a reflection of Chinese culture's love for delicious food. The original "Meat-Shaped Stone" is a famous Chinese sculpture carved from banded jasper during the Qing Dynasty. It is renowned for its realistic depiction of Dongpo pork, a popular Chinese dish, and is housed in the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan. The sculpture is designed to resemble Dongpo pork, a dish named after the famous Song Dynasty poet and gastronome Su Dongpo, who is said to have invented the dish
