A rare 1884 Paris edition of Theologia Moralis by Saint Alphonsus de Liguori—an 18th-century Italian scholar, lawyer, and philosopher whose writings on ethics and human behavior earned him wide influence. Theologia Moralis is one of the most enduring works of moral thought in the Western tradition.
Bound in richly marbled leather with gilt-stamped spines, decorative tooling and red title panels, this complete two-volume set (Tomo I & II) is printed entirely in Latin and published by Ludovicum Vivès at 13 Rue Delambre, Paris France. The books bear the marks of age with stately charm.
The work explores moral philosophy and practical guidance through the lens of 18th-century European intellectual tradition. Each volume is printed in double columns with a strong, readable serif typeface.
Each volume bears the presbytero stamp of a cleric named Antonio R. Tovar—likely Spanish, based on the surname and ecclesiastical title—offering a trace of historical provenance and a whisper of its journey.
A remarkable acquisition for collectors of intellectual texts or interior designers seeking a commanding visual anchor. The marbled leather spines and rich patina make these volumes a natural focal point on a bookshelf, console, or library table. Whether styled in a moody study, layered into a maximalist vignette, or offset against modern decor for contrast, they bring exceptional styling appeal and Old World sophistication to any space.
