Original Oil Painting of Man's Morning by Cynthia Bissell
Wonderfully evocative mid century figurative of male awaking to day by artist Cynthia Bissell (American, 1924 - 2000), 1961. With native American earth-tone palette and sharp, spiky angular lines, a Picasso-esque man arises to meet the day. Paint is a varied texture adding depth and interest.

Cynthia Bissell was born in New York City in 1929 and raised in Buffalo. Bissell also lived on the Navajo reservation at Lupton Arizona. She attended Stevens College in Missouri and Colorado College in Colorado Springs as a pre-medical student but gave up her medical studies for painting and writing. Her body of work "depicts the meaning behind the myths and legends of man," and that her powerful and vital paintings are highly influenced in design and color by "her knowledge, understanding and love of the Southwest culture of the Navajos." Her work tends to fall into two genres: a interpretation of existence through myth or a lyrical contemplation of nature. Bissell believed as did Tennyson that "all things in the sun have a right to live"
Her exhibitions include: Navajo Gallery in NM, Sausalito Art Gallery, Gallery "C" Berkeley, Cadmium Gallery, Lucien Labaudt Gallery, Rose Gallery and Barkoczy Gallery, San Francisco.
