The bird’s partially raised wing may be part of a drying process after bathing in the wetlands that Kobler has artfully included in this work.
Other than commercial airline crews, few beings cover as much airborne mileage in a day as Canada Geese. Under favorable conditions, these birds can travel up to 1,500 miles in a single day, and their seasonal migrations can range from hundreds to thousands of miles.
When it’s warm, they breed in the northern climes of Canada and Alaska. But come late August into September they’re off for sunnier spots to overwinter in the central and southern United States and parts of Mexico—giving lie to the negative connotation of “bird brain.” See less
