The early schoolhouses still standing sometimes found new utility as neighborhood community centers. Yet artist R. Kamal honors this pioneering institution in this folk painting. Within such humble structures were shaped the future workers, farmers, innovators and citizens who raised the flag daily as children, and grew up to build a nation. Nostalgia, so endearingly presented, does have a place in our lives. See less
