Splendid, extremely rare polychrome hard-paste porcelain sculpture, entirely hand-decorated and glazed, depicting a moose with large antlers, made in Germany by the renowned artist Karl Tutter for the renowned German manufacturer Hutschenreuther in the early decades of the 20th century. Marked under the base with both the artist's name incised into the ceramic paste with a metal nib and the manufacturer's ancient mark. The porcelain is of excellent quality, rich in kaolin and feldspar, which, during a second firing at high temperatures, allowed for a rich and beautiful vitrification of the porcelain.

Karl Tutter
Karl Tutter received his artistic training in Austria. Here he studied for eight semesters at an art school. He completed his private study of drawing and painting, which lasted a year and a half, with Josef Mayr. During the First World War, Tutter was taken prisoner of war for six years, which he spent in Khabarovsk, Eastern Siberia. Here he worked as a model in the State Museum of Regional Studies under the direction of the explorer Vladimir Klavdievich Arsenyev. He later worked as a model maker at the Royal Privileged Porcelain Factory in Tettau. He later worked at the porcelain manufactory in Sitzendorf. In 1922, he was employed as a model maker at the Lorenz Hutschenreuther porcelain factory. He and Carl Werner soon became artistic directors of the art department; both of them contributed significantly to the success of the manufactory. He was represented at the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich in 1941, 1943, and 1944 with a total of 18 works. Until 1956, Tutter created a wide range of ceramic works there. Tutter mastered the language of design. with great imagination, he created expressive and easily marketable sculptures. His designs ranged from voluptuous and graceful putto-shaped candelabras to rigorously stylized figures in the Art Deco style. He participated in other exhibitions, among others, in Prague, Regensburg, Bayreuth, Kulmbach, and elsewhere. In 1941, he received the Honorary Prize for Sculpture in Bayreuth.
