This … Read more The iconic Swan armchair was designed by Arne Jacobsen and made by the Danish manufacturer Fritz Hansen in 1958. This piece is from the first production series. The armchair was created as part of Jacobsen's comprehensive project for the SAS Royal Hotel (currently Radisson Collection Royal Hotel) in Copenhagen. The soft and organic line of the armchair is the result of the author's artistic approach to design and innovative technology, to which Fritz Hansen secured the rights in the 1950s. This technology allows for the shaping of furniture from hard foam material and offers more possibilities than wood. This is how Jacobsen's most famous designs were created, i.e. the Swan, Egg and Drop chairs, which combined modern technology, craftsmanship and the author's free vision. The armchair was re-upholstered with high-quality natural leather in chocolate brown with a visible texture. The swivel, four-arm legs base is made of chrome. Swan often appeared in Arne Jacobsen's comprehensive architectural projects, including the St. Catherine's College in Oxford from 1964 or the cathedral-like hall of the National Bank of Denmark.
