This rare and visually arresting art glass vase was handcrafted in Azerbaijan during the Soviet or early post-Soviet era, likely between the 1970s and 1990s. Made of richly saturated cobalt blue glass with a velvety satin finish, it features dramatic flame-like inclusions in red, amber, and gold tones embedded within the body. Two delicately applied handles in pale blue curve upward along the neck, adding contrast and elegance to the sculptural form.
The vase bears a circular label that reads 'Azerbaijan Glassware,' marking it as a product of a specialized artisan workshop. These studios operated during a time when Soviet republics supported small regional glassmaking cooperatives. Pieces like this were often crafted by trained studio glassblowers, and their work remains highly collectible.
This particular vase was acquired from the estate of a serious glass art collector whose home was filled with exceptional blown and studio glass. Despite its modest size, this piece drew immediate attention from estate sale visitors due to the intensity of its color and the striking composition—its saturated blue and glowing inclusions appear almost illuminated from within.
In excellent vintage condition with no cracks or chips. Heavy and beautifully crafted, this is a rare collector’s item from an under-recognized region of glassmaking.
