More About This Item
There is a lot to look at on this bud vase. The body is a tall, flared trumpet that opens to a scalloped rim. Down the sides, the pattern alternates between panels of crisp diamond points and ribs of rounded oval punties, so the surface sparkles in a way that plain glass cannot. At the bottom, a round, slightly domed foot is pressed with a starburst of fine rays.
Heisey made Punty and Diamond Point, its No. 305 pattern, in the early 1900s, and the vase shows off the detail that pressed glass could achieve at the time. The slim shape is meant for one or two stems, such as a rose, a few sprigs of greenery, or a single dahlia. It is also handsome empty, where the pattern does the work on its own.
At about eight inches tall, it fits easily on a windowsill, bedside table, or dining table, and it pairs well with other pieces of EAPG or cut glass. It would make a thoughtful gift for a collector or for anyone who likes antique glass.
Base is 3.375" in diameter.
Design Style
Early American Pattern Glass was the American answer to expensive hand-cut crystal. Pressing glass into molds let factories reproduce the look of deep cutting at a fraction of the price, so even modest homes could have sparkling tableware. Punty and Diamond Point is a good example, combining two classic motifs: sharp diamond points and smooth, rounded punties. The shapes catch light from every angle.
The vase suits traditional, vintage, and cottage interiors, and it adds a bit of antique sparkle to modern rooms. Clear glass fits any color palette.
Brand Legacy
A.H. Heisey & Company operated in Newark, Ohio, from 1896 until 1957, and it is one of the most collected names in American glass. The company's early output included many pressed patterns in the late Victorian style, and No. 305 was among its early successes, with pieces made in a range of table and decorative forms. Collectors today value Heisey's early patterns for their crisp molding and clear glass.
