Wonderful apothecary jar, pharmacy jar, with an ovoid body in ceramic glazed with tin glaze, entirely decorated by hand, fired … Read more Wonderful apothecary jar, pharmacy jar, with an ovoid body in ceramic glazed with tin glaze, entirely decorated by hand, fired at high temperature, with a wide ribbon handle, wide mouth, low spout with twisted strap and, at the bottom, a disc foot. The decoration is entirely hand-painted, depicting leaves and fruit, with the inscription "SD Epittimo" in the center, where "SD" stands for "Sucus de," or the juice extracted from the epittimo plant, a medicinal plant of the Convolvulaceae family, used in the 1600s to treat cancer, scabies, fistulas, and malignant ulcers. Dated to the late 1700s, 18th century.

Useful information for evaluating the item:
From an internet search, we found a series of jars similar to ours listed at auction for €400-500, for a jar only 20 cm tall with a serious defect on the top and the exact same inscription as ours, up to a maximum of €12,000-16,000 for a pair of Deruta jars from 1543 auctioned by Cambi, very, very similar to ours, which is younger and therefore certainly of lesser value. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
