This antique Chinese Kang bed, also known as an opium bed or opium table, is crafted from Ju Mu (elmwood) and features a central woven rattan panel. Originally used in the living quarters of Chinese homes—where it served as a daybed and resting place for opium smoking—this piece dates back to a rich cultural history, particularly in Southern China.
The elmwood frame displays a beautiful dark grain, enhanced by remnants of its original cracked dark brown paint. Over time, the surface has developed a warm honey-toned patina, protected by a smooth satin lacquer. Distinctive heavy inward-bent legs, characteristic of Kang furniture, add to the table's authentic charm.
