Rising over five feet in height, the frame is crowned by a classical shield-shaped cartouche embellished with scrolling acanthus leaves and surrounded by abundant carved flowers and foliage.
A sculptural floral garland sweeps gracefully across the upper portion of the mirror, creating an elegant swag beneath the crest. The molded frame is enriched with carved floral ornament set against diagonal ribbon-like bands, while a delicate beaded border closely outlines the mirror plate. The combination of symmetry, classical motifs, and naturalistic floral carving is characteristic of the refined Louis XVI aesthetic.
The hand-gilded surface has developed a warm, mellow patina with subtle rubbing and tonal variation that accentuate the depth of the carving. The mirror retains its original mercury glass plate, displaying the gentle age and character expected of 19th century glass, as well as its original wood plank backing.
