Upholstered in rich red leather, this generously proportioned armchair was originally commissioned by a private client who requested a large, comfortable design that would depart from previous models, yet remain distinctly “Hoffmann.” Hoffmann fulfilled this brief brilliantly: while the ample dimensions clearly reflect his hand, the precisely placed seam strips dividing the seat and back introduced a fresh and innovative touch, showing that the so-called “Quadratl-Hoffmann” was capable of reinventing his own signature style. Today, this representative piece — known as the Club 1910 — has even inspired contemporary revivals by Wittmann, proving the timeless appeal of Hoffmann’s masterful vision.
