The son of a Danish … Read more Copenhagen-born American artist Soren Edsberg (1945-2021) combined abstraction with impressionism in this vision of Armageddon. The son of a Danish painter, Edsberg converted in 1961 to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The association thereafter influenced his work.
Inspired by the Bible, the artist was known to have inscribed scripture verses on some of his pieces, as he has here. Perhaps such works were conceived as messengers. Regrettably, unless you can read Danish, the approximation is “A smokey warning.”
In 1987, Edsberg immigrated to the United States. Initially, he was an adjunct professor at Brigham Young University, but subsequently, he owned the Hope Gallery and Museum of Fine Art in Salt Lake City, Park City, and Provo, Utah.
