Wonderful, spectacular, unobtainable sculpture in stoneware or terracotta slightly softened with kaolin, depicting a group of animals: two turkeys and a rooster, made by the famous ceramist of Neapolitan origins but working in Milan, Guido Cacciapuoti, signed on the base with a signature made by hand with a pen directly on the ceramic mixture by the artist and with another writing that is not well readable but should be the title of the work. Datable to the first decades of the twentieth century, around 1920-1930.
Useful information for the evaluation of the object:
from our research on the internet we find that the highest auction results of this artist range from 1,500 to 3,500 euros with a very high result, 22,800 (including expenses), for a pair of scalar fish with a large wooden base. Immediately after the photos of the object you can see the estimate of a Catawiki expert, for one of our pair of ibex, very similar in style to our group of turkeys and rooster, estimated at 900-1,200 €.
Final considerations on the object:
In particular, this sculpture is of very high plastic quality, very rare, with a wonderful ancient patina, one of the very first pieces made by the great master certainly handmade by himself, a piece of great appeal to collectors of Cacciapuoti and animals in general. The plumage, the legs, the goiter of the turkeys, all hand-worked and finished with burin and gouges, a piece of rare beauty. One of the most beautiful that I have ever seen among those made by the artist. Even the fabulous patina of almost a hundred years testifies that it is a first edition and gives it a rare beauty.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
Guido Cacciapuoti, born in Naples on August 11, 1892, belongs to an ancient family of majolica makers from whom he learned the secrets of ceramic art. In 1927, in Milan, he founded with his brother the "Grès e ceramiche d'arte" in Milan. A highly talented modeler, he stood out for his beautiful animal sculptures. In 1930, due to the premature death of his brother, he remained the sole owner of the company. The factory immediately achieved great success and became famous for the realistic animal sculptures made by Guido Cacciapuoti, who died in 1953, now considered one of the most important Italian ceramists of the first half of the 20th century. In the last photos we have put historical information on the Cacciapuoti factory and biography on Guido Cacciapuoti, for those who want to learn more, with some of the brands used including the one on our sculpture.
