Wonderful figurine depicting a dwarf caramogi bagpiper, in polychrome hard-paste porcelain entirely hand-decorated and glazed with third-fire firing, signed under the base with a mark in blue under the glaze, with a crowned letter "N", a mark made by hand, with a brush tip. The sculpture can be dated between the end of the 18th and the very first decades of the 19th century, 1760-1820.
Useful information for evaluating the object:
from our research on the internet we find that similar caramogi by Ginori, most more recent than ours, many with various breaks or made of white porcelain, obviously of lower value than polychrome porcelain, are all offered from a minimum of €250 up to €800 for a pair.
Final considerations on the object:
The artistic quality of the object is very high, note the beauty and sympathy at the same time of the face and the beauty of the dress, full of folds especially on the trousers. Finally, the ceramic mixture is excellent, hard and rich in kaolin, as only the oldest porcelains were made, when this material was not yet exhausted. The almost caricatural style of the subject represented is beautiful, with a prominent hump on the back and a bagpipe in his hand. The ancient patina is very evident on the entire sculpture and especially under the base. Absolutely ancient brand, nothing to do with the classic Ginori brand, which is easily found in younger remakes.
Information on the artist and/or manufacturer:
The Ginori factory in Doccia was one of the most prestigious European porcelain factories. It was founded by the will of the Marquis Carlo Ginori in 1737 in Doccia. The descendants of Carlo Ginori continued to be its owners and to manage it until 1896, when the merger with the Società Ceramica Richard of Milan took place, giving birth to the famous "Richard Ginori". In the last photo, we have put historical notions of the manufacture, with some of the numerous marks used, including ours, the first of "Doccia", used from 1737 until 1820, as stated in the notes of the marks in the volume in French.
