Benjamin Rabier (1864 - 1939) Three fables Original plate in Indian ink on paper, 39 x 28.3 cm, signed and titled “Three fables”, annotated in “color” pencil at the top left, numbered 23 at the bottom of the board. Good condition, creases at the top right corner, four pinholes at the corners. Benjamin Rabier tells us three fables. The misadventures of a pigeon whose nest falls from the tree caught in a gust of wind. At the foot of the tree, he comes face to face with a pig who, despite his warnings, eats the chicks. The second fable offers a revisited version of La Fontaine's fable, The Cicada and the Ant, and finally, the third fable tells the misadventures of a fish, who is snatched by a heron while desperately hoping to open an oyster at the bottom of the pond. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
