Henri de toulouse-lautrec (1864 - 1901) showman, circa 1882 ink drawing on paper. Dimensions: 14 x 8.5 cm. This expressive, costumed character was captured from life by toulouse-lautrec during a music hall or theater performance. This portrait reflects the caricatured style of the iconic artist from the butte montmartre, which brings out all the emotions of the person. Provenance: former jean bauchet collection no. 42, paris. Bibliography: toulouse-lautrec and his work by mg dortu, the artists and their works, studies and documents implemented by paul brame and cm de haucke, published by collectors editions, new york, 1971, described and reproduced pages 442 & 443 under no. 2.715 volume v. Jean bauchet (1906-1995) began his career as an acrobatic dancer before turning to singing at the moulin rouge in montmartre. In 1976, he directed the théâtre du chatelet and then bought the casino de paris at the request of line renaud and loulou gasté. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
