This Antique Caucasian Kilim, measuring 6'2" by 10'2", is handwoven with vegetable-dyed wool on a wool foundation in the Karabagh region of the Caucasus. Kilims are flatwoven rugs created by tightly interlacing warp and weft threads to form a smooth, pile-free surface. Typically woven on horizontal looms like tapestries, this method produces sharp geometric patterns. Lighter and softer than traditional pile rugs, kilims have been used as sofa covers, drapes, pillows, tablecloths, and wall hangings, providing insulation against harsh cold.
