I believe it would have started its life in Mexico, about 1900, because of the building process used. Wooden slats and dowels. Mesquite is the wood used for both the table and the four chairs. It is gorgeous and unusual with wagon wheel hubs and an oxen yoke as the bottom part of the table. Completely hand hewn, both table and chairs. The Mesquite wood is a dense wood and heavy so it is very well made. It does show some history as at one end of the table I would guess a child sat there and over time dug a hole into the wood, which has been repaired with wood filler. Also, one of the chairs has had a bit of wood filler used to fix a few small splits for the purpose of comfort and not having more damage occur. This table and chairs is a one of a kind piece made from woods obtained in the Mexican desert region. Certainly a valued craftsman made this dining set and it reminds me of the "High Chaparral" television program in the 1960s with beautifully made western/Hispanic furnishings. See less
