Chinese Green Lacquered and Parcel Gilt Paper Mache Jewelry Box.
Late 19th Century.
Rectangular, the hinged lid lined with character-inscribed paper houses a beveled mirror in a gilt-stencil cushion-molded frame.
Four long drawers.
Bracket feet.
Emerald-green lacquer allover, with gilt decoration.
It was made for a Western (English or European) market, in China.
This is a very rare and unusual paper mache box, in 39 years I have never seen one as beautiful.
