Its seaside motif with Chinese junk sailboats, as well as trees, dwellings and mountains in the background lend to its beauty. Due to the camphor wood, the chest smells lovely when open. Our maternal grandparents acquired this small hand-carved chest well before we were born, most likely in the late 1930s to the early 1940s.

Given its age, the cover has warped slightly over the years, but this does not affect its form or function, nor do the small cracks in the bottom panel. Wear and marks that are typical for an item of this age are present and can be seen in the pictures.

We’re sad to have to let this chest go, but downsizing makes it a must.
