The … Read more This hand-carved footed wooden chest with hand-carved wooden carry handles is great for storing linens or other treasured objects. The raised, shallow, sliding tray adds to the storage utility. The seaside motif with Chinese junk sailboats and a village coupled with floral and geometric borders on the chest lend to its beauty. The back of the chest is not carved. Due to the camphor wood, the chest smells lovely when open. Our maternal grandparents acquired this hand-carved chest well before we were born, most likely in the late 1930s to the early 1940s.

Wear, marks, and small cracks that are typical for an item of this age are present and can be seen in the pictures. The small amount of splitting of wood on the bottom piece of the chest and the bottom of the sliding tray (see pictures) do not affect function.
