Item description:
Imposing glazed ceramic vase, entirely hand-decorated in Neo-Renaissance style, with an arabesque shape, a rather large ovoid belly, a flared mouth that extends upwards, a narrow base, and two very wide handles in the classic arabesque shape that join the large band surrounding the entire mouth, decorated with stylized, almost evanescent flower corollas on an ochre yellow background. The rest of the vase is decorated with two circular windows with a seascape on one side and a rural landscape on the other, two large harpies framing the two circular windows, and a faun's face just above the window. On the base there are two other faces of different fauns on the two sides, just as the two ladies on the sides are different. Note, for example, the difference in their hairstyles. The rest of the vase is decorated with Raphaelesque motifs, cornucopias, flowers, leaves, and branches. The neck of the vase also features two different decorations on either side with two angel faces, with "Faenza" written on one side and "Labor" on the other, in Latin. The combination of styles present in this vase, with a Neo-Renaissance Raphaelesque decoration, harpies, masks, and a central scene, with a shape and model that is clearly arabesque, is a feature that makes the piece very rare and important. The vase is signed under the base with a blue enamel mark of the Star of David with the letter "F" inside, the mark of the Farina factory, used from 1918 onwards. The vase can be dated to around 1920, and the wonderful patina, particularly evident under the base, confirms our dating. The vase is very large, measuring over 60 centimeters in height and 38 centimeters in width, and weighing over 6.5 kg, a real gem for art lovers and collectors.
