This vintage Turkish Kilim, measuring 3'2" x 6'1", is handwoven with wool on a wool foundation in Turkey's Oushak region. Kilims and flat weaves are characterized by their pile-free construction, achieved by tightly interlacing warp and weft threads to create a smooth, flat surface. Typically produced on horizontal looms, this method results in sharp geometric patterns. Lighter and softer than traditional pile rugs, kilims have been traditionally used as sofa covers, drapes, pillows, tablecloths, wall hangings, and as insulation against severe cold.
