Item description:
Delightful large sculpture, polychrome hard-paste porcelain figurine, entirely hand-decorated and glazed, depicting a sleeping homeless man sitting down. Created by the great master "Tiziano Galli" around 1950. Signed on the back of the base with the name of the work "Il sogno del Barbone" (The Dream of the Homeless Man) and immediately below "Sculture Tiziano Galli" (Sculptures by Tiziano Galli).
Useful information for evaluating the item:
Some auction results obtained for works by Tiziano Galli reach maximum estimates of €2,200-3,200 for a single porcelain sculpture. From some internet research, we found several similar sculptures by Tiziano Galli in an ironic-caricatural style, estimated at very high auction prices, including a sculpture entitled "Il minatore, Milan (c.1970)", lot number 61, sold at auction on 28/01/2012 in Piacenza, Italy, estimated at €1,000-1,200, and another sculpture entitled "The Clown, Milan (c.1970)", lot no. 60, estimated at €900-€1,000 at the auction on 28/01/2012, also in Piacenza, Italy, and finally another sculpture entitled "The Painter, Milan (c.1970)", lot no. 63, at the auction on 28/01/2012, again in Piacenza, Italy, estimated at €900-1,000.

Final thoughts on the item:
This fabulous sculpture is quite large and heavy, made from the highest quality porcelain, with meticulous attention to detail. Its main beauty lies in the caricature style in which the old homeless man is portrayed, with a large nose, two beautiful bags under his eyes, and a sweet, dreamy smile. A rare item, listed in auctions and collections, take advantage of this opportunity.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
Tiziano Galli was born in 1908 and began his production in the 1930s with cast ceramics very similar to the Lenci sculptures from Turin. Later, around 1950, he began a production more similar to the classic Capodimonte porcelain, in hard porcelain and with a very particular ironic and mocking style.
Tiziano Galli is undoubtedly one of the most important master ceramists of the mid-1900s, especially in the creation of sculptures and figurines of various kinds such as this one, together with Giuseppe Cappé, Guido Cortese, Bruno Merli, and Luigi Fabris, all workers at the very important Capodimonte factory "Porcellane Principe," who later, in their mature years, opened their own factories. The last photo contains biographical notes on the artist for those who wish to learn more.
