Sculpture, figurine in hard-paste porcelain, polychrome, entirely hand-decorated, depicting a child with a basket, hand-pierced base with pure gold finishes, glazed with third-fire firing, signed under the base with a blue mark under the glaze, "JP" with two dots, one above and one immediately below the two letters, made in France (Fontainebleau), in Paris, in the first half of the 19th century.
Useful information for the evaluation of the object:
from our research on the internet we find that Jacob Petit boasts important auction results with objects estimated at very high prices, for example we found two tureens in the shape of a bunch of asparagus that achieved the remarkable result of $ 32,500, while a sculpture similar to ours, although larger, 37 centimeters high, depicting an Arab with a turban was quoted at € 2,900-3,600, while a pair of sculptures, only 22 centimeters high, were quoted at € 3,522-5,871. Then we found a child with a vase on the back very, very similar to ours, entitled "Pastor bajo la palmera" which was estimated at €1,352 at the auction of 02/12/1999 by Fernando Duran in Madrid, Spain, lot number 222. Consider that in 1999 there were still Liras, so we are talking about a value that, compared to today, would be equivalent to more than 3,000 euros for sure. All this just to give you an idea of the value of Jacob Petit's porcelain.
Final considerations on the object:
This brand specifically is the second used by the manufacturer, the first 3 were used between 1830 and 1862, so we are talking about an object belonging to the first and oldest productions, dating between 1830 and 1850. It should also be considered that it is very rare to find signed objects by this artist, most are unsigned, the presence of the brand, specifically one of the oldest, significantly increases the value of the object, without considering that the object is in perfect condition without the slightest chip, lack or restoration.
Artist and/or manufacturer information:
Jacob Petit, born and died in Paris (1796-1868), was a French porcelain manufacturer of the 19th century. His name is linked to the originality of his production, renowned for the heavy decorations with enamels and pure gold, once considered exuberant and in bad taste, his pieces are now sought after throughout the world for their originality, the quality of their finishes and the richness of their polychromy. In the last photo we have put biographical information on the manufacture in French with the brands used, including ours. This piece has an attribution mark,
