A striking mid-20th century woven basket from Indonesia, featuring a dramatic flared silhouette and distinctive craftsmanship. Likely dating to the 1950s to 1970s, this handwoven piece is crafted from natural rattan or bamboo and mounted on a carved hardwood base with a rustic red painted finish.
The body is tightly coiled and woven in deep green tones, with a dark green exterior and lighter green interior. The rim is richly textured, wrapped in red-dyed natural fiber with an intricate open-lace stitch. The red-painted wooden X-base adds sculptural contrast and subtle elevation.
Originally used as a ceremonial or offering basket, this piece now serves beautifully as a decorative accent or functional catchall in boho, global, or rustic spaces.
