The commode shows … Read more Commode hand-made in Italy in the early 1800s using walnut and decorated with walnut and satinwood inlay. The commode shows very straight and modern lines, and the inlay provides it with a lot of depth and decoration. The commode features two inset drawers with beautiful, hand-made dovetail joints. The drawer fronts are decorated with inlaid grotesques, framed by a thin, alternating inlaid banding. The top is flat and also decorated with nature-inspired inlaid satinwood veneer. The sides feature inlaid female figures. The commode still sits on its original, long, tapered legs.
Overall this is a vey unique piece of furniture; the inlay is not common although it represents typical subjects often painted on walls in Italian renaissance palaces. The bleached wood also gives it a very unique look, by highlighting the grain and color of he different woods. The drawers are spacious and work well, therefore this will be both a functional as well as decorative piece that will most definitely be a conversation starter. See less
