This mid 19th century hand colored engraving, portrays the Committee of Five, appointed by the Continental Congress, as they work on drafting the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Key figures often depicted include Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston. The print is bright and in good condition. The frame has had the veneer repaired in a few places. The print is an engraving from the 1857 by Johnson, Fry & Co from an original painting attributed to Alonzo Chappel.
