About the artist, J.Hyde Crawford, 1930-2013, (New York Times, May 20, 2013)
"In the 1960s, Mr. Crawford was a contract artist drawing fashion illustrations for newspaper ads (they often appeared in The New York Times) when his client, the department store Bonwit Teller, asked him to refresh the venerable bouquet of violets that had long been its symbol."
Mr. Crawford's illustrations are loose yet full of detail about the garment. This illustration includes original markings and white-out alternations for newspaper reproduction. He created the drawings for now bankrupt fashion retailer, Bonwit Teller.
