Ancient gandhara region, stucco head of a bodhisattva, 2nd/4th century.
this example of greco-buddhist art illustrates the fusion of the elegance of greek statuary with buddhist symbolism. Note the delicate arch of his eyebrows, the half-closed, almond-shaped eyes imbued with serenity, and the finely drawn, full lips. Finally, the bodhisattva's chignon completes this harmony of the two cultures.
