This vintage Egyptian Kilim, measuring 9'9" x 14'9", is handwoven in the Fustat region of the Nile Delta using wool on a cotton foundation with contemporary designs. Kilims are flatweave rugs created by tightly interlacing warp and weft threads, resulting in a smooth, pile-free surface. Typically produced on horizontal looms, this technique yields sharp geometric patterns. Lighter and softer than traditional pile rugs, kilims have served multiple purposes, including use as sofa covers, drapes, pillows, tablecloths, wall hangings, and insulation against cold weather.
