This vintage Egyptian Kilim, measuring 10'9" x 15', is handwoven in the Fustat region of the Nile Delta using wool on a cotton foundation with contemporary designs. Kilims are flatweave rugs created by tightly interlacing warp and weft threads, resulting in a smooth, pile-free surface. Typically woven on horizontal looms, this method produces sharp geometric patterns. Lighter and softer than traditional pile rugs, kilims have been used not only as floor coverings but also as sofa throws, drapes, pillows, tablecloths, wall hangings, and insulation against cold temperatures.
