Minimalist desk designed by Florence Knoll for Knoll International.
This piece of furniture is part of the 115 desk series, which gained great popularity in the 1950s due to its modular design and diverse combination possibilities.
Shaped by the Bauhaus philosophy and influenced by her mentors Mies van der Rohe and Eliel Saarinen, Florence Knoll placed great emphasis on clean lines, minimalist design, and functional aesthetics – characteristics that are clearly reflected in this design.
The design of the desk is consistently reduced to its essential elements: desktop, frame, and drawer unit. The piece of furniture is by no means plain – rather, details such as the four small spacers between the unit and the legs create a subtle lightness that lends the desk an elegant appearance despite its size. The generous drawers are handleless but can be easily opened thanks to a circumferential rebate. The cylinder lock in the upper drawer reliably locks both drawers.
The tabletop and body are made of reddish-brown teak, which contrasts beautifully with the black lacquered steel frame and gives the furniture a modern yet warm feel.
