Hand-embroidered wall textile from Anatolia, circa 1970
Lightness, color, symbolism.
This extraordinary piece probably dates from the 1970s and was made in Anatolia. The base is a coarsely woven, natural-colored cotton cloth, hand-embroidered with great care. The geometric patterns – small, intertwined diamonds in vibrant orange, pink, green, purple, yellow, and turquoise – almost seem to float, reminiscent of symbols of protection and blessing from folk art.
The embroidered elements follow a clear line: rhythmic, almost meditative – like a textile score. The zigzag lower edge lends the piece a sense of lightness, almost movement.
Whether as a bed or headboard, as a wall hanging above a kitchen bench, or simply as a horizontal eye-catcher: this textile combines earthiness with cheerfulness, craftsmanship depth with decorative lightness.
Hand-Embroidered Anatolian Textile, circa 1970
Lightweight, vibrant, full of soul.
This unique piece likely dates back to the 1970s and was crafted in Anatolia. A coarse, natural-colored cotton base forms the foundation for a beautifully detailed, hand-embroidered geometric pattern in vivid tones of orange, pink, green, purple, yellow, and turquoise.
The colorful diamond motifs seem to float, arranged in rhythmic precision – evoking a folkloric language of protection, blessing, and balance. The zigzag lower edge adds a sense of movement and charm.
