In the world of gamebird etchings probably no name in American art rivals Richard E. Bishop.
He is the author of many books including
"Bishop's Birds" and "Bishop's Wildfowl" and his illustrations adorn the pages of books such as "The Ways of Wildfowl" and the celebrated classic "Prairie Wings."
No one really knew how birds flew before Bishop's pioneering experimentation with movie cameras in the 1930's. Concealed in a duck blind with a high speed camera of his own design, Bishop took miles of film of birds in flight. By stopping the film frame by frame, he was able to discover the secrets of flying. Fortunately, Bishop was as fine an artist as he was a researcher, and he leaves a legacy of knowledge in his beautiful etchings and paintings.
