An amazing reproduction of an 1840's cribbage board - the original was dated by the person/sailor who actually made this piece of scrimshaw back then.
Initialed GJA lower left front.
Depicts the whaler Topaz of Marquesas Islands Jan. 1840. Very interesting to look at and a talking point in the home. It can be used.
Topaz was built as a wooden ship in 1805 at Scituate, Mass. USA.
1805 Is her tonnage given as 385 ton, dim. 29.3 x 14.7ft.
Owned by Pachal P. Pope of Boston (other sources give Boardman & Pope.) and six others including Capt. Folger.
Ship rigged, two decks, three masts, square stern and a billet figure-head.
Registered at Boston, Mass. USA.
