Item description:
Smoked crystal vase, cut, with 800 silver base, made by the Belgian manufacturer Val Saint Lambert, while the base was made by an Italian Florentine silversmith. Under the base is the 800 silver mark inside an oval and a lozenge with the number "21" or "81" inside, which unfortunately is not clearly legible, then there is the fasces in the center and the initials "FI" which stand for Florence. The presence of the lozenge with the fasces inside indicates that this silver was made during the Fascist period between 1935 and 1944. The Val Saint Lambert glassworks probably ordered a series of silver bases from the Italian silversmiths in Florence, which they then combined with crystal vases made specifically without bases, such as ours. The patina covering the object is wonderful, especially on the silver base, perfectly in line with our dating. The crystal used is of the highest quality, very thick, extremely reflective, and rich in lead, as can be easily deduced from the crystal-clear, clean, and sharp sound it emits when touched, as only the finest crystals do.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
Our research shows that the Val Saint Lambert website features numerous crystal vases offered at very high prices, some very similar to ours in style, workmanship, and shape, with prices ranging from €600 to over €1,800, all to give you an idea of the artistic significance and value of this manufacturer's glassware. The last photo shows how the stamp under the base of our vase is one used from 1935 to 1944, proving the above statement.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
