Description of the object:
Rare two-handled amphora with support, entirely handmade in burnished, hammered copper, with incised geometric decorations. The amphora dates back to the early decades of the 20th century and can be attributed to the important French master coppersmith Claudius Linossier. Each circular incised decoration on the base, reminiscent of small suns, was handmade by the artist, as were the circular incised decorations on the three thick copper bands that make up the stand. The surface of the amphora is entirely hand-hammered and has been embellished with four raised cords, three beaded and one, the largest, worked in the shape of a rope. The patina on the entire object is beautiful, particularly noteworthy is the slight layer of copper green inside the support, perfectly in line with our dating.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
Claudio Linossier, born in Lyon in 1893 and died in the same city in 1953, was a French coppersmith. Considered one of the great figures of French Art Deco, he was a skilled goldsmith and medalist, as well as a chaser, engraver, enameler, and expert in various types of lacquer. During his lifetime, he created more than 3,600 pieces (plates, vases, etc.) in silver, red copper, brass, and nickel silver, giving them a colorful and patinated appearance, often with hand-engraved geometric patterns. He boasts numerous auction results and is famous worldwide.
