Rare vintage first edition 1986 "Matisse The Early Years in Nice 1916 - 1930" collector's large volume hardcover exhibition art book. An incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection. The profusely illustrated large volume features 188 full color plates and 94 black & white photo illustrations, as well as an exhibitions list from 1960 - 1982.
Published by Harry N. Abrams Inc. Publishers of New York, the black hardcover linen cloth bound cover has silver tone foil embossed letters. With dust jacket. Printed in Italy by Amilcare Pizzi S.P.A. Milan, in 1986 on the occasion of the exhibition at The National Gallery of Art Washington D.C., authored by Jack Cowart and Dominique Fourcade. It features a monograph survey of the artworks by artist Henri Matisse.
Henri Matisse (1869 - 1954) the French born artist is known for both his sense of color and his fluid aesthetic. Matisse is commonly regarded along with Picasso as one of the most important artists who helped to define and influence radical Contemporary Art of The 20th Century. His mastery of the expressive language of color and drawing won him recognition as a leading figure in world Modern Art.
