A handwoven French tapestry titled Vendages by Tapisserie d’ Halluin. This highly detailed wall hanging which has a title that translates to “grape harvest”, depicts an image from the Middle Ages of both men and women processing their harvested grapes, with high class onlookers. The figures are set on a lush floral and foliage filled indigo to brown background, showcasing rich colors. Finishing this piece is a cotton backing with stitched details around the hem. Labeled to the reverse in French. Measures 130cm x 110cm. This piece is sewn to be hung and is in excellent condition. Part of an estate, this piece is an original and retailed for more than $1,000 at the time of purchase.


DETAILS
Based on a French high-smooth tapestry, second half of the 15th century. Although sometimes depicting scenes of everyday life, tapestries in the Middle Ages were intended for lords. Against a background dotted with florets, the artist here glorifies the work of the vine. While the harvesters are active, the elegant do not disdain to taste the first juice of the trellis.
